Local Transportation
You will not need to rent a car or take taxis here. The University Sheraton has a courtesy shuttle which will pick you up at the airport and take you back. We will have a shuttle bus Thursday to the airport since the shuttle will not be able to accomodate everyone at once.

Arriving on Saturday, September 15?
The Sheraton is full on Saturday night due to a Syacuse University football game that day. We have a block of rooms at the Genesee Grande Hotel for Saturday night. Both hotels have courtesy shuttles so you will not need a car or to take a cab to get from the airport and to transfer between hotels.
For Saturday night, please register at: http://www.geneseegrande.com/ and use promo code: IEEE The hotel restaurant is good if you do not want to go out Saturday night. This is about 5 blocks from the Sheraton. If you wish to take a cab and see more of Syracuse, you may want to check out the restaurants in the Historic Armory Square area. Great things to do in Syracuse
If you wish to see the area and spend more time in Central New York, you may want to look at some bed & breakfast inns.
If you are interested in some day trips from Syracuse, these are some choices.
Niagara Falls - It really is spectacular. The views you see on postcards are generally from the Canadian side, but you also get a very good view from the US side. If crossing to Canada, please bring all documentation you needed to enter the US if you are not a US or Canadian citizen.
Corning Museum of Glass - An excellent museum with many live exhibits including the chance to make your own glass. An attraction for the entire family to enjoy.
Seneca Wine Trail - The Finger Lakes region produces excellent wines and there are over 32 wineries around Seneca Lake. Most of these are small so you would not see the wines in stores.
Turning Stone Casino - Did you fail statistics? Here is your chance to prove it! Turning Stone has a number of shows and attractions as well as a premier golf course (2010 GOLF Magazine/Golf.com Premier Resorts 2010 - Silver Medal Winner) in addition to the casino. You should be aware that smoking is permitted in all areas of the resort.
And of course, shopping. Carousel Center Mall is conveniently located (check with the hotel concierge to see if the shuttle is available). These are located indoors and an escape for a day if the weather is not what we hoped for. Syracuse University is a sponsor of the Conference and we will be glad to arrange campus tours (featuring, of course, the College of Engineering and Computer Science). Visit to Alexandria Bay on Lake Ontario (US only tour, no VISA required) 10 person minimum or we will cancel this and refund your money Alexandria Bay on Lake Ontario is a scenic spot “In the Heart of the 1000 Islands”. The tour will leave from the Sheraton at 9AM and return by 5PM on Tuesday. The trip is less than 2 hours each way and the town is less than 2km to walk from end to end. The Boat Tours and at trip to Boldt Castle (on an island, boat tour is required) are major attractions as well as the historic town. The cost of the program is for the bus only and does not include attractions or lunch. This also is discounted since attendees will not be having lunch at the Sheraton.
